Graphic of words like hustle and bustle and same great service

If you want to be successful in today's digital marketing world, you need to have some pretty deep know-how. But, with the constantly changing marketing trends, it can be hard to sift through all the online advice and information out there.

Podcasts offer a convenient and easy-to-digest way for marketers to keep their fingers on the pulse, allowing anyone to continue their learning, develop new skills, and expand their knowledge.

What Is a Marketing Podcast?

Any digital or content marketer looking to stay abreast of the new marketing trends knows that education is necessary. However, often the available resources aimed at educating marketers can be a little, well, dry. With so many books and online content providing as much personality and intrigue as an unflavored cracker, podcasts offer a fresh avenue that makes hard to swallow information easy, and dare we say, fun.

Some of the areas marketing podcasts cover include:

  • SEO (search engine optimization)

  • PPC (pay per click)

  • Content creation

  • Inbound marketing

  • Influencer marketing

  • Affiliate marketing

  • Brand awareness

  • Email marketing

  • Graphic design

The Best Content Marketing Podcasts We Could Find

There are hundreds (if not thousands) of marketing-focused shows out there. Some are definitely better than others. To help you identify which ones are worth your attention, we’ve curated some of the best content marketing podcasts out there today. That way, you can skip the searching and get right into listening.

The Marketing Book Podcast

Hosted by Douglas Burdett, a marketing agency principal, former artillery officer, Madison Avenue ad man, and stand-up comedian, the Marketing Book Podcast offers a lighthearted and conversational approach to marketing.

Named by Forbes and the Marketing Insider Group in their top podcast roundups, this show has some serious credentials.

This podcast's USP is that Douglas primarily focuses on interviewing some of the planet's best-selling authors of marketing and sales books. Dry? Heck no! In fact, it's casual and free flowing, with an informative edge that other similar podcasts just can't seem to achieve.

The one thing that truly sets him apart as a pro is that he actually reads his guest's books. Because of that, the questions Burdett asks are in-depth and probing with no room for dead air, as he consistently peppers the conversation with real-life examples and personal book recommendations.

With a clean sweep of 5 star reviews on Apple Podcasts, his loyal following from all kinds of backgrounds can't get enough.

Marketing people stop and listen! This is such an amazing podcast. I personally didn’t have the time nor the access to the movers and shakers in marketing industry; but, through Douglas' awesome interviews I have both. Add the fact he responds and interacts with his tribe and it makes this podcast a can’t miss weekly appointment.

Amazingly Intense! This show is an ivy league education in every episode!

POWERFUL! Powerful, professional, and unique! A must listen...funny too!

This is a great podcast for any marketer looking to get a high-energy, but deeply insightful listener experience.

Digital Marketing Podcast

As you can probably tell from the name, it pretty much does what it says on the tin and is without a doubt a digital marketer's dream. Entertaining, informative, and ad-free, these snappy weekly episodes are fully laden with the latest news, tools, strategies, and techniques to give digital marketers the edge within the industry.

Hosted by two softly spoken Brits, Daniel Rowles and Ciaran Rogers, the Digital Marketing Podcast brings to the forefront engaging interviews with global experts on every aspect of marketing imaginable. Email marketing strategies, SEO for videos, crowdfunding, social media algorithms, dynamic Html 5 display ads, backlink checking — you name it, they've probably spoken about it.

With episodes lasting between 20-30 minutes, it's the ideal way to pass some time and get your marketing fix on your commute!

Everyone Hates Marketers

With a tagline that reads "The only podcast for people sick of marketing bullshit," you know you're in for a ride!

Hosted by Louis Grenier, the guy who likes to talk about himself in the third person, this expert interviewer brings some of the freshest content you can get for a marketing podcast. What makes Everyone Hates Marketers so good? Well, for a start, Louis doesn't take any prisoners. He's confident, focused, and at times downright abrasive.

But don't let that put you off, because his hunger for knowledge is what brings the show together. And he constantly pushes his interviewees to satiate his appetite.

Louis also enjoys nothing but 5-star reviews on Apple Podcasts.

"Louis is such a fantastic host and pushes guests to get unique content that’s incredibly actionable."

Louis drives conversations in a direction that he knows listeners want to explore — and he doesn't stop until he has squeezed every last marketing drop out of his guests' heads. This means the listener doesn't have to suffer through the usual filler or fluff, but instead gets a punchy marketing podcast that delivers.

If you have a spare minute, you can even join his "Stand the F**k out" newsletter, which we highly recommend.

EDGE of the Web

Edge of the Web is a weekly show that covers it all! Well, by "all," we mean the world of marketing. Host Erin Sparks ensures each episode is filled with his hard-earned wisdom and genius insights on the latest trends in SEO and digital marketing.

But don't be fooled by the claims of "SEO Podcast." Erin and his guests also dive into the realms of social media, content marketing, email marketing, and tons more. With show titles like "Is Google search getting worse?" and "Are metrics more important than rank?" it's a highly clickable podcast that can suddenly send you down a forever spiraling marketing rabbit hole — in a good way.

Content and Conversation

Who doesn't love a good chat? Content and Conversation’s audience certainly does, with many commenting that it's one of the best podcasts out there for online marketing — and we kind of have to agree.

Each conversation between Siege Media founder Ross Hudgens and his guests — who include marketing royalty such as Rand Fishkin and Cyrus Shepherd — is packed with value and genuinely helpful tips. Not bad for a short-form podcast!

HAMYAW

An acronym for Hillary and Margo Yell At Websites, yelling at websites is precisely what the duo does. But as many folks have said before us, HAMYAW is the best marketing podcast you have never heard of.

This oddly unclassifiable video-only podcast is hosted by the two savvy marketers slash copywriters, Hillary Weiss and Margo Aaron. Consistently informative, funny without being "funny," critical without being nasty — HAMYAW is a beautifully balanced show that hits the sweet spot for those who want to hear intelligent people talking sense.

With their episodes spanning a wide range of topics from branding to selling, they show no fear when it comes to digging deep and resurrecting some of their past mistakes. For example, Margo and Hillary have torn into their own first websites, gibed over Margo's infamous banner copy, and pointed a gnarled, critical finger at Hillary's atrocious 2012 pricing.

Self-deprecation aside, they offer plenty of insight into how, with the right tools at your disposal, anyone can succeed in the marketing (and entrepreneurial/business) realm. And these girls have it in spades (pardon the pun).

This is undoubtedly a show worthy of your subscription list, especially if you want to hear more unique female voices in this space. Hillary and Margo have since moved over to Instagram, but you can still access all their juicy goodness on their YouTube channel.

Copyblogger FM

Helping writers succeed in the creator economy since 2006, there is no doubting Copyblogger’s status as an authority on copywriting and content marketing. And they’ve continued to dish up the goodness with their podcast, Copyblogger FM.

While their blog is packed with valuable content and certainly worthy of your time, getting up close and personal with established content pros like Brian Clark, Darrell Vesterfelt, and Sonia Simone is a truly unique experience.

Along with covering a diverse range of content-related topics that run the gamut from emerging trends and interesting disasters to enduring best practices, worthwhile news and practical strategies and tactics to level up your content marketing chops, they also pull back the curtain on the Copyblogger blog and Rainmaker Digital as a company to show you what content strategies have worked for them.

Marketing Over Coffee

Hosted by marketing gurus John J. Wall and Christopher S. Penn, Marketing Over Coffee unpacks both new and classic marketing. Each episode features guests with unique expertise and topics are never stale. If it’s not a cutting edge new idea, then it’s a new spin on an old one.

If you’re tired of the same old, same old, and ready to expand your marketing knowledge in unexpected ways, this podcast is for you. The weekly show routinely covers topics like staying up to date with social networks, email marketing, multivariate testing, copywriting and even “old school” offline marketing campaigns. They’re also happy to answer listeners’ questions!

Online Marketing Made Easy

Another really well-known name in the content marketing realm, Amy Porterfield is a phenomenal resource for digital marketing. And her podcast does not disappoint.

Tuning in, you can expect everything from mini execution plans and expert interviews to a behind-the-scenes look at some of her biggest launches.

Amy’s podcast is an easy and enjoyable listen for sure, but it’s also so much more than that. After each episode you’ll leave with actionable insights that you can apply to your own marketing plan.

This Old Marketing

Hosted by Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose, two of the leading experts in the content marketing space, CMI’s podcast, This Old Marketing covers the latest news and trends in media, marketing, content marketing, and digital content news.

Episodes are rarely more than an hour long and the pair promises that if they’re not educational, they’ll surely be entertaining. But don’t let that fool you, because they never fail to deliver value-added content.

Their weekly podcast rants and raves are not to be missed. A case in point is episode #347 Down Goes Meta. Joe and Robert bring a unique take on how businesses can build a loyal audience, and then monetize that audience (because, why not?). It’s easy to see why This Old Marketing has been downloaded over two million times around the globe.

Wrapping It Up

Okay, so we'll be the first to admit, we may have snuck in a few that weren't solely content marketing podcasts. But each of these podcasts offers something unique for anyone interested in improving their digital and content marketing strategies.

For most of us, time is something we all seem to be lacking. But having a podcast on hand that can be consumed and digested in a matter of minutes while we do the washing up is a revelation — especially when we can be both educated and entertained along the way.
