Logan Paul's Podcast Equipment List
Contents
"Impaulsive" is a video podcast hosted by Logan Paul that launched in November 2018. The podcast features interviews with a diverse range of well-known guests, discussing current events and topics related to their life and work. While the interviews can be interesting and insightful, the lack of a clear focus makes the podcast somewhat inconsistent in quality. But that doesn’t mean listeners don’t love it.
It’s known for offbeat interviews and humorous settings. The video podcast reaches well over many listeners globally.
Mic
Model: Shure SM7B Vocal Dynamic Microphone
Price: Averages at about $399.
Pros:
Wide Dynamic Range: The SM7B offers a wide dynamic range, providing clarity and versatility in vocal and instrumental recordings.
Durability: This mic is known for its rugged construction and legendary reliability, making it a long-lasting investment.
Presence Boost: The SM7B features a presence boost that compensates for lack of brightness, enhancing vocal quality.
Internal Shock Mount: it’s equipped with an internal shock mount that absorbs vibrations, eliminating the need for bulky external mounts.
Off-Axis Rejection: Provides good rejection of off-axis sound, ensuring focused audio capture. (It doesn’t pick up background or “side” noise as much, just what’s in front.)
Built-in Pop Filter: Includes a highly effective pop filter, reducing plosive sounds and enhancing vocal clarity.
Cons:
Needs to be Close: This mic is meant to be used just a few inches from your face, if you are moving a lot it won’t pick up the audio. This can be a con if you are prone to movement.
Transient Response: While decent for a dynamic microphone, it may not capture as much detail in the audio as condenser microphones, though for voice-only and podcasting, this should be fine.
Low Output Level: True only in slightly older versions of this mic, there may be the need for a pre-amp. The newest version comes with one built in.
For his podcast Logan Paul has chosen a microphone we are a big fan of. Logan Paul uses the Shure SM7B Vocal Dynamic Microphone as his microphone of choice, producing a clear sound quality.
While it can be a bit expensive as far as microphones go, it’s well worth the investment. The SM7B offers a wide dynamic range and will last you through many years of podcasting. The mic comes with a built-in pop-filter to protect recordings from harsh plosives and an internal shock mount which means it won’t react to bumps to the table or arm. However, this mic does need to be used in short range, only a few inches directly in front of the speaker’s mouth. If you are prone to expressive movements while you talk, or move around, this might not be the microphone for your show.
Headphones
Model: Sennheiser HD280PRO Headphones
Price: Average cost is about $99
Pros:
Neutral, accurate sound: These headphones also have a relatively flat frequency response
Comfortable for long recording sessions: These are designed for long wear, don’t sacrifice your comfort while working hard in the studio!
Durable: these headphones are very sturdy, expect to use them for quite a while.
Great value for the price
Cons:
Bass response may vary depending on fit and listener: this is a personal con, but do your best to try them out before a purchase.
Non-detachable cable: While we recommend connected headphones for podcast recording, this can be seen as a con if you want to use these headphones for any on-the-go reasons.
For his recording sessions, Logan Paul has chosen the Sennheiser HD280PRO Headphones, a great option for studio recording While the non-detachable cable may deter some, in a studio setting it works well and does a great drop at delivering the host a clear sound.
Camera
Model: Sony FX3
Price: $3,689
Pros
Image Quality: Exceptional image quality with high dynamic range and color accuracy, particularly in low-light conditions due to its dual native ISO settings.
Portability: Lightweight and compact, making it ideal for solo shooters or those working in tight spaces
Versatile Video Options: Supports various picture profiles including S-LOG3, allowing for greater flexibility in post-production color grading
Battery Life: Uses NP-FZ100 batteries, which provide extended shooting time compared to many competitors.
Cons
Price: Considered expensive relative to its features.
Limited Cinema Features: Lacks some advanced cinema features such as DCI 4K recording, shutter angle settings, and waveforms that are found in higher-end models.
Storage Limitations: Uses SD cards instead of CFexpress Type A cards, which may limit performance in some high-bitrate recording scenarios
Overall the Sony FX3 is a little for show. It has great features, but at the same time lacks some specific to filming. Its available features come at a high price point compared to some competitors with similar offerings. Logan Paul uses the Sony FX3 Camera for his podcast, primarily in a studio setting. Even with its cons, we can’t deny it offers great quality footage in the end, but you could opt for something with a lower price.
